“Manuel Neuer had made a promise to teammate Atsuto Uchida. Before the game against Frankfurt, Uchida had revealed he had a message written on his shirt to show his support for his home country Japan in the wake of the natural disasters there. Manuel promised they’d win the game so that Uchida could show off his message proper. Manuel even said he’d personally make sure everyone saw Uchida’s message.

Things seemed to be going according to play after a Schalke penalty kick. Then Manuel made an uncharacteristic mistake in judgement. A 73 yard kick bounced over his head and tied the game. Manuel was visibly distraught. Late in the game with scant minutes left, another goal pulled Schalke into the lead. Neuer, who had been blaming himself for the Frankfurt goal and inability to keep his promise, visibly says a prayer and crosses himself after the winning goal. He then gives a relieved hug to Uchida, who had come to celebrate with his captain.
Manuel kept his promise, taking Uchida to the cameras so everyone could see his message. Sometimes even the heavens smile on captains with kind hearts and souls that take on the weight of the world.”
Probably old news but worth blogging I thought. Class!

Manu! I miss Bundesliga, but I don’t have the sports channel nor the time to watch streams anymore :(
